British Pounds

We are going to London in August. Would I be wise to purchase my pounds now at my bank, or wait until the summer. When will I get a better deal?

Betty, there have been several recent threads on this.

I think the consensus was that you should just wait til you get there, and take your pounds from the ATM at the airport.

If you really want to have some in hand when you arrive, it doesn't matter much whether you get them now or later, the pound has been pretty stable against the dollar lately.

So on a couple hundred dollars buying them now or later , it's about $3.00 at most...do what makes you comfortable!
$100.00 is mor than sufficent!

I'm interesting in buying some stocks. Should I buy them now or later. Betty if we knew that, we'd all be rich. Guessing the money exchange rates is the same thing.

I am now completely convinced that the best way to exchange money is the ATM. One thing to remember is your bank probably charges a transaction fee each time you access the ATM so you might want to get as much money as you can/need. I did it in smaller increments when in Paris for a month not knowing any better; however, the total charge was $10 for the month. Only annoying that I didn't know that. For my last 2-3 trips I returned with all the travelers' checks I took. The ATMs are so great. And, all airports have them.
