British currency (sm amt)

I'll be spending a single afternoon in
London soon and will need about ten British
pounds. Is there a way to get such a small
amount of currency before leaving the US?
(My bank has a $50 minimum, plus a $10
charge and a poor exchange rate)

Many thanks for your help,

Gerry K

Thanks, Rex. I called the Amex
office, which is about 60 miles
from my home, and their charge is
$15 for any amt. What I need is
fare (about three pounds) to the
Heathrow Renaissance Hotel). Any
other ideas, anyone?

Thanks,

Gerry K

I no longer worry about having foreign currency before I arrive at my destination. I have never had a problem obtaining it from an ATM at the airport once I arrive. (However, I do bring about $100 US, in case all the machines are broken/empty/etc. - that way I can exchange enough at the airport to get me into town, and then find an ATM there.)

Thanks, Lesli. Great idea.
I never thought of the currency
exchange as an alternative to
the ATM, which I feared would
malfunction.

Gerry K
