Brit rail - help!
This is probably a stupid question, but does the Brit rail pass cover travel within London (tube) or just travel between cities in the UK? I'm planning a 10 day trip that will include mostly London, but a day trip to Straford-upon Avon (and maybe one to Oxford, too) as well as a couple of days in Edinburgh. So if the Brit Rail pass only works between cities, then we only need the 4 day pass, but if it works in London too then the 8 day is better. Also, does it work to and from the airport?
Thanks for your help!

Hi jeh8t. From what I can remember the Tube is completly seperate from the other rail networks, so you will have to get a seperate travel pass. Also there is no British Rail anymore, it has been divided into seperate companies. Try http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homep...ley/ticket.htm
or nrekb.nationalrail.co.uk/promotions/ for tickets on the national rail networks. Also, don't be afraid to experiance the wonders of the British road network...everywhere is so close!!!
Hope that helps a bit

I don't believe that the London Tube is included in the Brit Rail pass.
In my experience, the passes have not been cost effective due to the many pricing points available. You can check pricing for individual trips at http://thetrainline.com
You can order on-line and arrange for pick-up once you arrive or have the tickets mailed to your hotel to hold for you. You can also wait til you arrive to obtain your tickets without a problem.

Actually BritRail does exist. But it isn't a rail network, simply a marketing name for rail passes, etc.
in any case - a BritRail pass does not cover the tube so you wouldn't want an 8 day pass. But you don't need a 4 day pass either.
Day trips from London will be very inexpensive since there are so called cheap day returns. You buy a round trip ticket for the same day and it basically costs nearly the same as a 1-way ticket - Just a £ or 2 more. You must leave London after 9:30 on most lines to get a day return.
If you book your trip to Edinburgh well in advance you will get a very good fare (just like airlines - book ahead and get a reduction).
W/ your itinerary there is no BritRail option that works out as a money saver.
