bringing wine back from a trip to Spain?

I must be doing something wrong in my searches, because I can't find anything. Is there a way to bring wine back into the US after my trip to Spain? Last time I went overseas on a wine trip I was able to put it into a rather large carry on (it was back in 2000).

Thanks!

You could pack it in your suitcase. You can't carry on anymore.

Otherwise, you'd have to buy at duty free.

duty free..but then at arrival in USA must be put into suitcase if you have a connection or lose it at security again. Best to put it in case thus from the beginning if you have connecting flights.

Yep, if you have a connecting flight in the U.S. and your wine is a carry-on, you'll lose it to security. I lost bottles of grappa and balsamic vinegar that way. ( Just where do they put all that booty they confiscate? Do they enjoy it at home?)

You can buy "wine cases" which can be checked. We went to Spain with a wine collector and he brought a case back in checked luggage.

Yes Judy ... but that's if you do your regular suitcase then as a carry-on. Otherwise, most airlines now charge you $25 for a 2nd checked luggage item. A Wine collector who was brining back 12 or 24 bottles might not mind... but for the rest of us, 1 bottle or 2, that's a high extra fee. What an age we live in.

Tavelerjan, $25 checked bag may be less than shipping the wine.

I was thinking that too - checked luggage fee versus shipping and you still come out ahead. Esspecially if you buy more than a couple bottles, and what better reason to buy more wine

Thanks for all the responses! I now have to figure out how much I can bring back with out the weight of my luggage going up. My husband is all ready telling me that I need to determine how much clothing I want to bring if I plan on bringing back wine. Oh well I may just have to recycle a couple of outfits to allow for the wine.

We've just enjoyed as much wine as possible while traveling and then looked for it through various distributors once we arrived back home. There is a LOT of wine on the market now. You can buy wonderful Monastrell, for example, for less than $10/bottle so it's not worth trying to carry it back.
