Hi Taggie : yes, of course you're right, there were funny & heartwarming bits too. I probably take the sad parts more to heart though as I was living in Sheffield during the miners' strike, and tend to remember most the parts of the film that make me cry.

Hugh Grant is not so very "nice" nor "charming" in "An Awfully Big Adventure"... a few years back with Rickman.

Firth is married to a beautiful Italian and they have two little boys. He was previously in a relationship with Meg Tilly with whom he has another son, now about 14.

He was prime tabloid fodder for several years after P&amp;P but it cooled down after he got married. He doesn't like all the attention and tries to discourage it.

If you'd like to see him in something else, try to find My Life So Far, a charming little movie. He was also in Shakespeare in Love, as the man Gwyneth Paltrow was forced to marry.

you can see Hugh Grant without his mannerisms, shyness. A wonderful performance.

FYI Beban Kidron (director) has let it slip that Bridget Jones interviewing Colin Firth WAS filmed and will be included as an extra with the DVD release - however it was felt that it interfered with the &quot;suspension in disbelief&quot; that all drama requires so was chopped frm the theatrical release.

We were going to see this film tomorrow (thats November 12th ) but after reading the New York Times review, I might not.
Has anyone actually seen this one?
I did like the first, not as much the second. This one sounds awful

Re: Hughie the cutie retiring... He's been threatening this for a while... since the first Bridget - but then he did About a Boy... then he threatened retirement some more - but did Love Actually. He's also been working on a script for ages. He is getting increasingly grumpy, and being with Jemima doesn't seem to help! But if he marries her he certainly won't have to work...

This one is number two. Based on your other movie feedback, I doubt this will be up to your level of sophistication, Scarlett.

While I did not love that movie either, I would say that sitting in a darkened theater and looking at Jude Law for 2 hours is not Punishment

That NYT review was really biting! Will still go to see it, though... if just for the eye candy (and I'm not talking about Renee's posterior, which gets mentioned a lot in that review).
