Oh ira, I meant the cows themselves are dirty, or at least they seem quite smelly to me as a city person, not the milk that we eventually get to drink which goes through multiple sterilizing processes.

Would it be inappropriate to demand it freshly squeezed at tableside?

It's not terribly expensive, it only costs nipples and dimes.

Ah... the Winterthur restaurant. Supposedly, the milk will only be used in a few dishes, especially in the Zürich Geschnetztlets. I find it disgusting personally but whatever sells.

Cows teats are sterilized before the suction tubes are placed. The cows may be a bit dirty but the teats are very clean.

Reminds me of the regulatory furor which came out after the Cherobyl disaster. The fallout got into the grass and into the foodchain....and mothers were testing for high levels of Strontium 90 etc..

So there was a motion to take local cow's milk off the shelves, and ban all any products containing human lactation.... except those being served in their "original packaging"...

At least the milk was freshly squeezed in that case.

MCNYC,

The factual answer to what breast milk costs is, $5.40 for 14 ounces, according to the article. Of course, the some sicko guys would pay to do the harvesting, so that must bring the price down.

Sorry chaps,

there is a serious side to this - for example the chinese babies who are currently very ill from drinking contaminated baby formula would not be ill if their mothers were bresstfeeding them. not to mention all the 3rd world babies who suffer malnutrition or worse because the formula is made up wrongly or with dirty water, etc.

looked at in that way, it's too good to waste on grown-ups!

regards, ann

The restaurant owner is apparently paying about 3 pounds (less than $6) for 14 ounces of milk. I can't see any breastfeeding mother taking that offer, given the effort involved in pumping. Is he going to check to see if the product is adulterated?

Funnily enough, this issue hasn't really touched a nerve in Switzerland. Most people laugh it off as another crazy marketing scheme from restaurant owner.

I think this is the ultimate meal for stag parties.

This reminds me of a story I read somewhere once:

A woman, who had a young baby, had pumped some of her milk and stored it in the frig. They were having hubby's boss over for dinner and in the rush of preparing a nice meal, she realized she had used her milk in the dessert by mistake instead of cow's milk.

She said the boss was still telling her husband how delicious that dessert was over a year later!

Maybe the restaurant guy is on to something ...

Of all topics!

I came to Fodor's to keep abreast of Switzerland news, and this is what I find?

Hopefully the news will be better tomorrow.

Ta ta!
