FauxSteMarie, the title of this thread makes the subject pretty clear. No one is under any obligation to open it.

If you're looking for a travel board where these kind of threads would not be allowed, I'm sure we can all make some suggestions. However, good luck finding another one where you'll get the quality of information in as timely a fashion. Like it or not, Fodor's is a community. That means that we care about each other and show our concern in times of trouble. It's also what keeps people coming back and sharing their expertise.

Hello, dearest Mimi. Keith and I have been away in Israel and are now at our house in the Poconos. Christine saw your post this afternoon and called me on my mobile. I want you to know that Keith said a prayer at the Wailing Wall for you and Jerry. He is sooooo religious. I just stood in the background wondering what a photo shoot with Jean Shrimpton in Dries Van Noten would look like against all that history!

We are painting the exterior of our little cottage, which is so funny because it is hard to hold a gin bottle and a paint brush at the same time. Mummy has Jackie O. I won't see her until Monday.

Well, we left Israel just in time! We could have been hit by a rocket! Mummy was a nervous wreck because she was terrified something terrible was going to happen. But, we are safe and sound. I will email you when I get home, sweetie darling.

Slimshady

So glad to hear that Jerry's surgery went well, Mimi. Let the healing begin!
Bon courage for both of you, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hermes, I , too, am happy to hear you and Keith are safe and sound in your little cottage. Can Keith not hold the gin glass for you? Too bad we are so far apart, Pup would love to help me babysit JackieO..
to you too, Scarlett
* We should all visit Boston some day and visit Mimi, Jerry & Pastis

CAPH the last thread on Cigalechanta's husband's was blocked by fodors from taking more posts. They do that when the thread is non travel related--which this thread clearly is.

So, it is not correct that this travel board permits such threads. They just last until fodors catches up with them.

Mimi, you are so often in my thoughts these days and, obviously, in the thoughts of so many other members of this far-flung, wildly diverse "family" of ours.

Our philosophies and personalities may sometimes confict and clash, our voices may mutter in complaint or snipe in criticism, but in this we are united: our outpouring of support for you and the one you love.

Without conscious intent, by just being your kind-hearted self year after year, post after post, you have achieved the inmpossible on Fodors: consensus!

Hugs,
Kathleen

Mimi, disregard Faux.

Faux folks don't count. They are, after all, self declared faux LOL!

PRIMAL SCREAM!

How petty when you think about it in context to the issue.

To me, the board is also about the people who post here. I come back for them as much as the information - its the people who make the information priceless. The comraderie encourages sharing and better information and we all win and the board is better for it.

(I have to also think that Fodors must realize the brilliance of having this board in terms of increasing their own market share and customer loyalty.)

My two cents and now I will mix another drink and read some more...

Excuse me, FauxSteMarie, but I don't think you know the full story on the last thread. It's my understanding that Mimi asked that the thread be frozen (note that it was not deleted, just frozen) because she was self-conscious about all the attention. And, if you look, I think you'll see that Fodor's often lets non-travel related threads continue as long as they're doing no harm. Which this one definitely is not.

good news Mimi! and Faux, even if you DID post your intimate details of a personal nature here, we'd all rally behind you too...that's what makes Fodor's the community it is.

Mimi, I have not been around much since we met in Paris in February, but I want you to know that you and Jerry are in my prayers. You must be relieved that the surgery is over and things are looking brighter. Take good care of yourself as well as Jerry!
