I'm starting to sift through info for our visit to Roma next spring (our 2nd) & I'm confused about the Villa Borghese.

How many different buildings & sites are there & do you need to see them all? Borghese, Barberini, Spada, Venezia, Giulia, Corsini . . . We like art but we don't want overload.

I just googled up this description of the Villa Borghese park:

It is huge and full of attractions. If you have not been to the Galleria Borghese, I suggest that is the one museum in/near the Villa Borghese that you want to see.

I have been trying to get to the modern art (not contemporary, mind you) at Villa Borghese, but always run out of time. Anyway, I think most people would agree that the Galleria Borghese is a great museum, small, gorgeous, and you will enjoy.

You can spend most of a day wandering about the Villa Borghese park, but you certainly don't have to, nor are you obligated to visit any museums there at all. But the Galleria Borghese is the one at the top of most people's lists.

My wife and I liked the Etruscan artifacts at the Museo Nazionale di Villa Giulia in the Villa Borghese park. And if you're in that area, I recommend visiting Piazza del Popolo for the architecture and the Santa Maria del Popolo church on the north of the Piazza for the Caravaggio paintings.

Thanks for the replies. I am trying to whittle our list down a bit since we'll only have 3 full days before hopping to Sicily where we'll spend the bulk of our vacation. The Galleria Borghese is on the short list now.

The park around the Borghese is spectacular. Hopefully you will have time to take a long walk through it. Here are some of the pictures we took in the park in Jan. '07.

I just tried to buy two tickets to see the Galleria Borghese and all of the info was in Italian. Got any ideas on how to get it in English.

Sandi, my DH and I will be in Rome in early November. I was planning to skip the gardens because of the time of year--but your pics are wonderful! So I've added it as a "must do."

It comes in English here. After you go to the Ticketeria site, select English. I didn't follow it all the way through, however. You can only buy 60 days ahead by the looks of it.

I found what I was looking for. If you stay in Italian, you can click on all the different places & view photo galleries of their "greatest hits".

We went to the Villa Borghese(Galleria) last November 23rd with our Daughters Family from Frankfurt who met us in Rome and it was great. Our Daughter made the reservation for the time that we would be there. You have to pick a entrance time and then you have so much time to see what you can in that amount of time. So do your home work of what you want to see and have a plan of attack. The park is interesting but very big. We went to the park by bus from our apartment that she had rented by taking the bus to the train station & then to a stop real close to the Villa. The bus system is quite good there just take the time to look it over. The other buildings we did not have time go to so I can not help you there. Our Gradaughter wanted to go see where the cats lived in the ruines & that was more important to her.

The one true must see is the Borghese Museum, which is just off the charts impressive (the collection's leftovers occupy a prominent room in the Louvre).
