Flew BMI from Amsterdam to Dublin via Heathrow in 2002. The airline itself is fine, on time, no hassles, luggage arrived with us. The flight attendants wear these funny hats and gloves which I thought was a little strange, but they were very nice.
Our biggest mistake was flying thru Heathrow! Never again will I make that mistake, worst airport in the world!

Well - I've flown British Midland probably 8 or 10 timnes and had a full cooked meal every flight. Never a cold sandwich, and seldom a sandwich of any kind. On morning flights I've had full breakfasts including bacon, sausage, eggs plus all the normal side dishes (fruit, bread. cereal, tea/coffee, juice)
BMI (I prefer "British Midland" but that is just a quirk of mine - I also seldom say AA, BA or UA) is one of my favorite airlines . . . . . .

I'm flattered that someone takes time and effort to show my judgements to be incorrect. However, as a company they trade under BMI - regarding advertising, tailfins etc. Let's not quibble over this minor detail, afterall it is irrelevant to the post whether it is BMI or British Midland, they are both correct and used by the company itself.

But you did say British Midland doesn't exist any longer. It does. You are contradicting yourself by saying that both names are used by the company itself. It's similar to BA and British Airways.
AS you know they have a low-cost subsidiary called BMI-baby with a cute baby picture on their planes and work much like Ryanair and Easyjet. But 'baby' isn't part of Star Alliance and you don't earn any mileage on it.

We used bmibaby to travel to Prague in December and would definitely use them again.
It was our first time using a budget airline and we weren't used to having a precise closing time for boarding like Easyjet does! They announced a final call for the flight even though they hadn't made any other calls for the flight and we panicked and ran.
We were fine as there were still hundreds in front of us in the queue, but you do have to be careful.
Quite a relaxed (for someone who hates flying!) and informal flight.
Speaking of informal, I felt quite sorry for the flight attendants. I bet when they thought of a career in the air they imagined a smart uniform, not having to wear a sweatsheat and pants!
But I suppose these are the ways these airlines save money and pass on the savings to us
