I grew up Catholic and have respect for all religions--I even have a holy card of Mary on my refrigerator, *but* when I hear of the "Blessed Mother appearing daily", I cannot help but want to ask, "Is there a 2 drink minimum?"

Absolutely nothing, wombat! Didn't mean to give that impression!
I will agree with PalQ on one point though. We need to let the thread get back to the OP's original question. She/he just asked for info! It's really none of any of our business how she/he chooses to spend her/his vacation time and money!

Hey girlspy--you gave me a good laugh. Of course, it is not on there as a good luck charm, but rather b/c many things that have meaning to me end up there. It is a real hodge-popdge!! It is a card from a friend's grandmother's funeral and it is next to a card of Mother Teresa. It just seemed to be an appropriate pairing and it reminds me of some of the positive feelings I have for my religious heritage....

Well, I must have been naive not to think my question would have caused so much controversy. I understand and appreciate everyone's views of faith or nonfaith. However, I was only interested knowing where it was and if anyone had ever been there. Such a shame that some of you can't leave it at that! I certainly won't comment or criticize others for their beliefs!!

" Such a shame that some of you can't leave it at that!" Agreed, lsscancun!
"Well, I must have been naive not to think my question would have caused so much controversy." Sadly, probably also true. We Fodorites aren't known for our restraint!

Hi Isscancun,
I hope you got some good info in the midst of all the controversy! I personally rather enjoy the discussions! I have noticed at my job, that whenever a conversation turns to religion, you can hear a pin drop in the room. For whatever reason, even people who profess to have no relgion find the topic irresistable. I am often intrigued with the zeal I hear in the arguements of skeptics. It seems to me that they instead should be bored or indifferent to the topic. Make me wonder who they want to convince? It reminds me of the zeal of one of the most prolific writers of the old testament--Paul.
Anyway, just thought you might find it funny that one of the things "Our Lady of Peace", as she is called in Medugorje, asks for is prayers for peace, and the respect of different religions.

sorry, hit the post button by mistake on the last one!
Just wanted to add that different people hear the voice of God in different ways. I myself didn't see anything out of the ordinary in Medugorje. But I hear God and see God everyday in the voices of many people around me, and in the calling of my conscience.
I know many people view religion as a waste of time, and silly superstition. I have worked with sick and dying people for many years, and I have yet to hear anyone of them say that they wished they wouldn't have wasted so much time in church. Any patient I have ever met who has had a near death experience has never said afterward that they were giving up that silly religious business.
I know this is a travel forum, so I will button it, but just had to add my two cents to the topic that was already on the table!
Happy travels to all!! pp

No problem! I find religion an interesting topic, always, and the older I become, I do indeed find that my intellectualizing about it seems to matter less and less, and my need to believe in something greater than myself, something that can be moved within me to indeed cause miracles to happen, has become ever greater-I suppose this could be considered one meaning of the word "faith."

Four cents"

To me there is no inherent contradiction between "professing” atheism and finding the topic irresistible – or indeed arguing with zeal.

Hi... i did not make it to medugorje on my recent croatia trip, but a friend went a few months ago.. she did not like that there were so many plastic likenesses and cheap souviniers everywhere. she didnt comment on her beliefs.
PalQ- your judgemental comments are what really made me sad!
