As I saaid before avoid the main N road along the south side of the Loire - too busy and too marrow a shoulder but the series of D roads (in white on Michelin maps for the most part) that go along the northern bank - thru Onzain to Blois I have biked many times and they are superb was to get between Blois and Amboise.

Just booked a flat in Amboise for a week. Additional thoughts on great sights to see nearby by bike or car appreciated.

When I google Chateau d'Eau, I only come up with the Metro stop in Paris. Can you point me in the correct direction PalenQ?

I've rented a car at CDG so we'll drive to Amboise and have it for most of the week to explore the region before returning to Paris via train.

Um, I think PalenQ was making a joke because château d'eau in French just means water tower, which are usually on a high spot anywhere.
