Has anyone else heard of the downtown Munich National rental office closing? I have a car that I reserved through Gemut from that office and I haven't heard back from Gemut yet.

My original rental was for a National location on Schiessstaetter Strasse (location was called Muenchen West). That location has closed and they have transferred my reservation to a location on Marsstrasse, serviced by Europcar, and raised the rate from 165 Euros a week to 192 Euros a week. Has this happened to anyone else?

I heard back from Gemut - my car rental broker - who heard back from AutoEurope - 99.12 Euros for fuel! for a rental car that was returned to Garmish FULLY FUELED!!!
Gemut is stating that without fuel receipts showing that we paid cash for the fuel just minutes before dropping off the car, a refund of the charges is difficult.
My 'bad' for not getting and saving every cash receipt we had on this trip! Expensive lesson learned...
let's hope the credit card company can dispute the charges for us.

Thanks for reminding us to keep all of our receipts.

Sorry it was an expensive lesson for you.

Hi all,
I finally received a response from AutoEurope re: our overbilling problem with EuropCar. I made all my phone calls, faxed my documents, and sent my emails early in the third week of June. I have heard nothing since then. Today I checked my credit card and I received a refund for all but about $12 of the overcharge. I'm not going to worry about that, just happy to have received the vast majority of the overcharge.
All in all, I have to say I was really disappointed in Gemut, AutoEurope, and especially EuropCar. Gemut sat on my claim for more than a week before sending it on to AutoEurope. They told me there was nothing else they could do and not to contact them again about the matter. The person was someone filling in for Andy Bestor while he was away, so maybe that is not normally how they treat their customers. Nonetheless, disappointing, especially considering the nightmare we went through the couple days before our trip and upon arrival when Gemut/EuropCar messed up our rentals that we had booked five months earlier.

I might consider booking through them again, but there is NO way on earth I'd let it be with EuropCar.

I rent cars about 30 times a year in France. I have had the most problems with Hertz (although they always refund me after my complaint letter) and the fewest problems with Europcar (which AutoEurope gives me the most often) -- but a few complaint letters were also necessary. The company that has been the most flexible when I have had problems is Budget.

I am in the process of questioning a bill from Europcar, but this may be due to my stupidity. I picked up a car at the Glasgow airport and was told that I owed £30 or so for taxes and fees. These were legitimate fees that were noted as probable or definite on my contract. But I paid in cash. I then noticed that Europcar billed me one day after I rteurned the car at the Edinburgh train station (no attendant) for the same taxes and fees. We'll see if the printed rental agreement will suffice for a reimbursement of the fees.

There is a lot to be said for using credit cards if there is even the most remote possibility for confusion. Renting a car is one of those things I would NEVER pay cash for.

The rental was already paid for and the potential damage covered by the credit card. I just took that expense as an incidental add-on of no importance, although this add-on represents two days' rental.

Oh, I understand how easy it was to do that, and why you did it. At the time it just seems easier than running a charge through. But sadly cash leaves no paper trail.

A little late posting this...
I did eventually get things worked out with AutoEurope through Gemut & got a full refund for the fuel charges only...apparently there is some 5euro 'hidden' charge that was not thoroughly explained at the time of booking. The fuel charges were reversed 'this one time' as I was able to convey the exact address of where I re-fueled (thanks Google Earth) and my entire time spent with the rental car return agent who graciously drove my family to the train station after drop-off. I was strongly encouraged by Gemut to save all fueling receipts for disputes (typically I do but this was the end of a long 17-day family trip and I was exhausted).
Andy Bestor of Gemut was easy to deal with, communicated well and was apologetic. However, it took some time to get things resolved and those charges 'sat' on my credit card during that time.

To add my complaint about BUDGET REntal Car.,
We recently used them in Ireland (over Christmas) and when I received my credit card, there was an additional charge of 175USD. When I queried this charge, they stated that the car was extremely dirty and they had to pay a valet to clean it.
The car was in normal condition when returned. Not spotless, but certainly not excessively dirty. We emptied all trash prior to returning, etc.
They sent me a receipt for the valet which was dated several days after I returned the car. I continue to protest this charge, but it is quite a hassle.
Pity that some companies will take advantage of people whom they know are leaving the country and do not have time and resource to fight back.
From here on out, I will check the fine print carefully (Budget points to fine print which “If the Vehicle needs more than our standard valet you will pay the extra cost.”
