Better late than never.... thanks for all the help...

We've been back three weeks already and I feel guilty that I haven't thanked you all for the great advice and help I recieved before we left.
I hope to post at short trip report when I get the time. We had a wonderful trip to London and Italy, including a first time visit to Venice which we loved and can't wait to get back to
Statia we loved your recomendation for late night snacks and drinks in Florence, can't remember the name of the place but will look it up. It was just around the corner from our hotel and we had great pizzas there a number of times, thanks.
We had a little bad luck when we got home, our house was broken into (we and our many dogs were home at the time).... long story, but the real bad luck was that a few of the things we bought on our trip were taken Guess we'll just have to go back!!
Actually we are planning a trip to Austria for New Year, and that will be our second new year celebration in Austria, can't wait, but I'm just a little worried about leaving dogs and daughter at home to watch the house.

This was going to be a short post! Well, thanks folks and hopefully I'll soon get down to writing a trip report.

Glad you had a great trip, Mischka! And, glad the recommendation worked out well for you. You'll have to refresh my memory on what osteria you're referring to. Was it the one with the great wine bar on Borgo San Lorenzo? (I can't recall the name right now, either).

Sorry to hear about your house. What a bummer.

Have fun planning Austria. We are hoping to return to Venice, and see some of Austria and Switzerland again this spring.

Statia I found the name of the osteria. It was the one on Borgo S Lorenzo and was called Osteria Dell Agnolo. Thanks again.

Wow back to Venice, lucky you I watched The Great Race tonight, in Venice, and had a real urge to go back. We spent 5 days there and would really like to have a full week to just wonder around without any rush.

Well happy trip planning

Yes, that's the one, Mischka. We enjoyed Valentine's wine recommendations there very much. The meals we had there were also wonderful.

We are hoping to spend a week in Venice the next time. We were supposed to go in October, but something else came up. So, we are now planning for spring.

Welcome back, again!

Dear Mishka, I hope our welcoming you back makes up for the awful return of your house being broken into. It's a horrible thing to happen We're glad you had a wonderful time.

Geez, Mischka, talk about getting slapped with ugly reality after the thrill of traveling!

So sorry about the break-in and loss of your carefully chosen purchases. What's additionally rotten is that those things, which to you evoked memories of a happy time, mean nothing but quick money to the thieves.

What a deeply disturbing experience, especially in your home, the one place we should all able to feel safe. But, you survived, which is the absolute main thing. Survived to travel again!

Tighten security as much as possible, move past this, and take back your lives. Give it some time. I wish you peace.

Thanks everyone for all the kind thoughts and welcome back.

We've put burglar bars on the windows of the two bathrooms that face the road, so at least those windows can stay open when we're not around. As for the rest of the house, well I refuse to be forced to live in a prison, so we'll just have to be more careful next time.

We sat the dogs down and explained their role as watchdogs, so hopefull they're more alert now! Sorted! No more problems! Hahaha!

Thanks again everyone

PS. Sorry about the spelling mistakes in my first post, can't blame it on gin, so it must have been the late hour or something.

haha!

We have a Border Collie who would hide and hope they don't find her, not so the others. To be honest, I wish they would all hide because my geatest fear is that they would get hurt.

I agree, Mischka, but some dogs are so needy, no matter how much love you give, they want to please everyone. My dear is now blind and deaf and othr age problems but I would not leave him alone.

Welcome back, Mischka, and it was very nice to meet you in London! Dogs are so funny. I once met a pit bull who came charging at me...I thought I was going to be attacked, but as soon as she reached me, she fell on the ground and flipped over. she needed me to rub her stomach. So much for being a vicious watchdog. Another time she growled at me but it was because I was sitting in her napping spot!

Anyway, I hope you and A. have managed to work thru all the hassle of the break in. Keep in touch....I hope to come see your home town!

Mischka - my house was broken into several weeks after I returned from my trip, but I wasn't there at the time. In fact, I just posted about it. Everyone seems to think it funny that I miss some of the stuff that was taken more than the more "valuable" stuff, but I can't help it!

Anyway, good luck with getting your stuff back, and hopefully you can repeat your trips to replace the missing and gather new stuff!

Hi Melissa,
It was great meeting you too... actually I see you everyday because at the moment my screensaver is a slideshow of our trip, so I am often reminded of our walk
If you think that Pitbull was crazy just wait till you meet our Border Collie (Mischka)!! Come to think of it, maybe that's where my crazy streak comes from. Maybe I should rename myself!!! haha!
Glad to hear you're still thinking about a trip to this part of the world, c u.
Oh yeah.... take it easy on the merlot, save room for some SA tasting

Heather,
I'm so sorry to hear about your break-in. I know how you feel about losing the little things that can't be replaced. Sometimes things hold memories that can never be recovered, even though they may not be worth any money at all.
We were lucky this time because it was a quick thing (I think), they just came in through an open window and grabbed what they saw laying around. Many years ago we had a much more messy break-in which involved one of the four robbers being shot and killed in our lounge, so compared to that this really seems like nothing, just sad to lose stuff bought on our trip.
Anyway, I hope they catch your robbers and hopefully recover some of your stuff, and I hope you get to repeat all your trips and many more.
Good luck

I know just what you mean Melissa. Once I was walking down the street with my 18mo old baby taking the lead, when the home owners (in front of the house we were walking) got home. When they opened the door their pitbull race out directly at us. I grab my baby so fast, but my heart was racing, my palms were sweating and my adreniline was pumping... when I look down the pit had place her tennis ball at my feet and her tail was wagging so fast I thought she was going to propel herself off the ground. She wanted to play fetch!!!
