Best wine bar in the 5th in Paris?

Good evening!

My hubby and I are going to Paris in Sept and I thought it would be fun to spend our first night at a wonderful wine bar (we will be arriving from London, so jetlag will not be an issue.) Can anyone recommend one, preferably close to our hotel at 35 rue des ecoles.

Merci Beaucoup!
Jamie

Le Mauzac at 7 rue de l'Abbé-de-l'Epée is in the 5th arrondissement but actually quite some distance from your hotel. I can't recall if the Left Bank branch of a well-known group of wine bars, L'Ecluse, is still on the quai des Grands-Augustins, which is about the same distance from where you'll be.

You might think about going out of the area to Willi's Wine Bar at 13 rue des Petits-Champs. On the other hand, you can just find a pleasant sidewalk café and order as much wine as you'd like.

I don't know exactly where your hotel is, but my favorite in the 5th is Cafe de la Nouvelle Marie on 19 rue des Fosses St. Jacques near the Pantheon is my fave. I usually tuck into the cheese plate and knock off my half of the bottle of red wine that they recommend to go with the cheese[Last time it was a delightfully fizzy Provencal red]They also have a great green salad with some great blue cheese from the Auvergne [I think]

Here's a good one in the 6th:

Fish La Boissonnerie
69, rue de Seine (Odéon Metro station)
Paris 014 3543469

It's a small place, but they have a wonderful selection of wines as they are associated with a wonderful little wine shop nearby, La Derniere Goutte. I think you'd like it. The name comes from a creative editing job on the former fish shop's signage (poissonnerie).
