best western amsterdam

There are quite a few B. W. hotels in amsterdam; does anyone know which one is the nicest and in the most central area? If you have stayed at one please comment; they seem to be the most reasonable priced of all the chain hotels. thanks

My husband and I stayed in the B.W. AMS Terdam Hotel near Leidseplein and the Vondelpark in 2000. The room was a twin/double, decent size, ensuite, not luxurious at all, but certainly modern and clean. The street is a tiny one-block curve behind the Marriott (which is on the KLM shuttle route), and was very quiet. The breakfast room provided a variety of breads, cereal, yogurt, coffee, tea, etc. Our room looked over another sidestreet, where the Owl Hotel is located. We could walk to the museums, to the Leidseplein (loads of trams and a tourist office), or Vondelpark. I would choose this area again in the future - the area up by the Dam seemed much more 'overrun' and noisy...

Alice,

Do you recall what other hotels were on the KLM shuttle?
I'm staying at the Ambassade later this year and they aren't on the drop off list. Would like to find out what hotels are on the list, so I can decide if to take the shuttle or take other transport.

For cwill and Alice,

The Jolly Carlton (Italian chain) is on the shuttle route and has a perfect central location - next to the flower market. One can walk to everything.

Best of all it is a very well kept hotel with good size rooms and great service.

If I remember correctly the room rates (B&B) where competitive with BW rates.
Discovered this on my first trip to Amsterdam and was very pleased.

Have a great trip.

I stayed at the Best Western Lancaster Hotel last fall. Room was clean, nice and quite spacious. It's right across from the Artis Zoo in a quiet part of town...great for bike riding! And there's a tram stop right out front, so getting to all the action is a breeze.

I'd recommend it.

I booked a trip to Amsterdam just a cvouple of weeks ago and a tough time trying to decide on a hotel, never having been there. I took a chance and booked in the Central part of Amsterdam through Priceline and ended up with the Marriott Renaissance (a five star hotel) for only $90.00 a night. my advice if BW are anything like other BW in the world STAY AWAY!
