Best "well located" hotel in 6th Paris

Please share with me your personal experiences. Lots of nice hotels in Paris, but what ones do you recommend for ease of dining, shopping, metro travel to sites and atmosphere, safety? The "perfect" spot to stay in Paris. Thanks

Hi Meg, we stayed at the Regent in the 6th, excellent location, great staff and nice bathrooms. Heard Rue Dauphine is torn up in front however, and that could be a problem? The 6th is filled with lovely 3and 4 star hotels, I think quite a few Fodorites have already stated their favorites in the 6th. I will try to bring it up for you! Judy

Thanks Judy. One of my first choices is Le Regent - thanks for the information about the street being torn up. That makes a difference. I'll try to check it out.

Meg

Virgi:
I'm researching our spring trip to March & we will be staying at the Grande Hotel Des Balcons... I THINK it's between the 5th & 6th. It's near the Luxembourg Gardens. I feel really good about staying there after all the research I've done. Do a search on this site & put in the hotel name. You'll be surprised at how much comes up regarding this hotel & how positive it all is.
I have e-mailed them regarding reservations & they responded immediately. Their website is:
www.balcons.com and you can contact them at [email protected]. Hope this helps!
p.s. Phone number is + 33 1 46 34 78 50

You cannot go wrong with Hotel du Champ de Mars (7 rue Champ de Mars. Stepane (owner) and his staff are great! The rooms are pleasant but small and the price is the best. It is also around the corner from the Metro (Ecole Militare) and right on Rue Cler for great food.

Gwyn: We stayed at Grande Balcons two years ago and found it very satisfactory. Now...just for reasons of variety and curiosity, I guess, I'm after someplace new for OUR March trip. Am waiting on an e-booking I made last nite. What dates will you be in Paris - maybe we can get a Fodorite meet going!

Thanks everyone - now it's a toss up between Le REgent and des Balcons. Wish me luck!

Try also Manoir Saint Germain des Pres; perfect location in the heart of left bank. Nice hotel and reasonable rates.

Le Regent is quite a bit more expensive than Balcons. We reserved a room in May at Balcons for 525FF. According to parishotels.com, Le Regent runs from 750 for a standard double to 1150 for a deluxe.

Thanks Judy, but I plan to go in season and while I love the description of the Madison, they list at over 1400 FF per night. Am I missing something?

My vote is for the Madison also. We stayed there in November '99 and have booked again for this April. Friendly staff, great breakfast service and great location. Enjoy.

Can Someone please tell me about the hotel named Madison in Paris in the 6th - how to locate it online, etc. Does anyone know of good places to stay with one daughter in room as well as parents - need a large room or small suite. thanks

By the time you make up your mind, they'll all be booked solid.

I was just down the street from le Regent at the d'Aubusson, also on rue Dauphine, first week of Dec 2000 and there was no evidence of the street work I'd heard of. I loved the location, although I am usually a right-bank person..
It is about a 10 minute walk to metro
Odeon or St Michel.

Elaine - I was in Paris last week and went to l'Aubsusson to check it out for our upcoming visit. I did not see any signs of a torn up street, either.

Sorry about the "heresay info" on the Regent, heard somewhere Rue Dauphine was under construction! As it is not, I would stay there again, cause it is a great little hotel! Judy

We stayed at the Regent this summer and loved it over the other four hotels we've stayed in the neighborhood (except that Relais St. Germain was nicer but nearly double the price). However, if you object to tiny rooms, I'd suggest you opt for the delux room which is considerably larger. We talked to some people who really didn't like the standard rooms at the Regent--too small. We peeked at a couple and I would agree. Our deluxe room was spacious and extremely nice with a very nicely equipped and large bath.
