I am afraid train is out, if you don't have too much luggage, the easiest way will be a short walk to Piazza Roma, then bus or taxi to airport.

Hello lammom, actually if you wish you can take the train and get to the Marco Polo Airport. If you take the train from the Santa Lucia Train Station and get off at the Mestre Train Station (about a 10 or 12 minute train ride) there is a bus that will take you to the Marco Polo Airport. Here is the website for your review.

You could do the train, but why, when you can just go to Piazzale Roma in Venice and take the #5 ACTV bus (or else the ATVO bus).

If you are staying in the Jewish Ghetto area, in the Cannaregio district of Venice, you could walk to Piazzale Roma (probably about 20 minutes) or take the vaporetto.

I'm not sure what you mean by the 'best way', but if you haven't taken the vaporetto yet, it may be worth the experience to do so.

Again, depending where your hotel is in the Ghetto, you could walk to Fondamente Nove on the north side of Venice and take the Alilaguna Blue Line across to the Airport. Map and timetable are on their website.
