Best way London - Zurich?

I've looked at easyjet and they only fly to Basel and Geneva. Swiss Air costs a ton. I'm looking for the good mix of low cost and short travel time.

Easyjet dropped the Zurich route last year because of landing fees. No other airline will fly you there cheaply unless it is a continuation flight from the USA.

I suggest flying to Basel and taking the train the rest of the way. I don't think you can do it any cheaper.

An option would be to fly to Munich and take the train to Zurich. By the time you pay the train fare, you might be at the breakeven point to fly Swiss Air.

Geneva is an option, too. Trains originate from the airport and get to Zürich in 3 hours plus, depending on connections.

From Basel it is about an hour and a half. From the airport you can ride a bus to the train station.

Thanks, that's what I found too. Can't do a continuing flight from SFO-LHR-ZRH as I want to spend 3 days in London... Train, even from Basel, would be long because my final destination is yet another hour outside Zurich (on the other side)... Sounds like it's more hassle than it's worth to visit in-laws relatives.

Why haven't you tried Helvetic, who are currently offering €9 each way specials?

Have you played around with contraflow times out of LCY (where the peak demand is typically Swiss bankers coming into London on weekday mornings and flying out weekday evenings, so there's often spare capacity in the reverse direction)

Lastly, I just plugged in some random dates in a couple of weeks' time and got £88 return (incl all tax etc) on lastminute.com's superflex deal.

Thanks a lot. I did not know about Hevetic. Checked them out and the 9 Euro's turned out to be 48 due to some additional charges, but still not too bad.

Thanks again.

Not sure if this suggestion is coming too late, but can you rearrange your trip? Do Zurich first so you fly straight in and then do your 3 day stopover in London on the way back to SFO.

Four hours outside of zurich can be the german border - maybe it might be best to fly there or even Austria?

Ryanair flies to Friedrichschafen (german side of lake constance) but I'm not sure where from in London they fly, possible Stanstead.

If Stuttgart is an option to travel to, there's also www.germanwings.de.
