Best time to visit French countryside...April or Sept?

Hi there,

My hubby and I are planning a 3.5 week trip to visit northern france...particularily the wine regions of burgundy and alcase. Which month would you choose to go and why?

Thanks!
Jamie

We were in Alsace during the spring of last year and it rained quite a bit. We are returning this year, but are going to try October instead. The vineyard colors should be at their best in late September and early October. I can't offer any firsthand information about Burgundy. We will make our first visit to that region during our upcoming trip.

For nothern France, I would say September, as it is likely to be warmer. Also, it could be particularly interesting to see those areas just before harvest.

September, without any doubt! For the reasons mentioned above.

One of the problems with April can be that the vines have not leafed out. We where around Easter in 2000 and the fields were bare. Next trip is planned for May or September.
