Best thing I brought back was my wife. The Italian men kept pinching and touching her, and for a while I thought she might run off with one of them.

I bought a rather large mirror made in Murano on a trip 5 years ago. I love it and each time I look at it it reminds me of my trip.

I brought back some Parmaggiano from Parma, as well as olive oil and balsamico. Every time I use it, I think of the hijinks it took to buy the things. Always makes me smile.

bought a murano glass pendant, that I wear on a chain all the time. It was inexpensive, and I have had more compliments on it! it brings back great memories.

Black truffle Olive Oil from a grocery store in Montalcino, Vino Noble from Montelpulciano, exquisite shoes from Florence, and a lovely glass necklace from Venice.

I bought a bunch of silk ties in Florence. I paid between $7-$12 each. I am a lawyer and I have been complemented on all of these ties. I have worn them since 1997 and they are in great condition. I bought them from vendors on the street.

#1 "thing" is the memories as with other posters. #2 is all the cooking stuff I bring back each year (olive oil, spices, pastas and cookware)once a week I prepare a wonderful itailian meal to entice my husband to keep taking me back to Italy. We're nearly out so here we go in October.

Let's see. Gold jewelry, small pictures of Italian towns(including one on glass done by a gypsy child), perfume, Vin Santo, and several additional pounds from all the wonderful food. M.

I should cite the beautiful painting from Florence, but I'm kicking myself for not buying more pashminas after scooping one up for $10! It's lavendar and so soft. I've gotten much use out of it and just love it. I need to go back just to buy 3 more!

For I Want to Know: The San Lorenzo open air market in Florence is bargain shoppers' heaven -- ties and scarves galore, in silk and synthetic, infinite colors and patterns, unbelievably low prices. Also leather goods, pottery, and more. I got a luxuriously soft wool and cashmere shawl, about the size of 3 pashminas, for less than $40. Another Florence favorite was a collapsible leather wastepaper basket, purchased from a street vendor near the train station, not at S.Lorenzo, though.
