Best Resource for Driving Directions

We are renting a van in Rome and driving to Montecatini Terme for a weeks stay. I have a Michelin road map of Tuscany. In the US we use MapQuest for driving directions. I printed out MapQuest from our car pickup at Borghese Gardens to Montecatini and the instructions seemed really complicated. 33 entries just to get to the first highway out of Rome! (It didn't look this difficult on the map, but reading the directions did.) Is there something better than MapQuest for point A to point B directions?
