Best postal rates

I'm planning to mail a package back home from Europe. I'll be traveling in several countries. Which country has the best rates? Which country has the best service? Do you send regular rate? or slow boat?

Service in North/West Europe is good, service in Southern and Eastern Europe is worse. Italian post has a bad reputation. Postal rates in the Netherlands are reasonable and lower than in most neighbouring countries. <BR>

Here's one I would not have known about, had it not been pointed out: in France they sell ten-packs of pre-posted airmail envelopes that are actually cheaper than postcard rates. My friends suggested using them even for postcards. They are sold in the vending machines, or over the counter. Sorry, I don't remember the rate, but I do know that it was comparatively reasonable (within France-- no info on other countries)

Best rates for postcards? We used US stamps and mailed them at US military installations while in Germany a few years ago. I showed my friends how to do it as I used to be stationed over there. There friends in the US never noted that the stamps were not foreign. My friend was very upset when we got to Rothenburg and they had no US facility. Trouble is, now the US has closed more installations and they are harder to find. It was fun while it lasted!
