Best Places in Italy for Birding / Birdwatching

Have you had any memorable birding experiences in Italy? Where were you, and what time of year was it?

Italy is a bird desert. They kill and eat everything.

Get yourself a copy of the Lipu book "Where to Watch Birds in Italy". Subbuteo will have it if nothing else.

Dog Mother,

Two years ago, in October, riding through the countryside outside Orvieto,we happened upon four pheasants perched on a low wall, just waiting for us...we stopped and watched them, and they watched us...close enough to touch almost..as a "city gal", this was quite a sight for me...they are really beautiful birds...

I don't know, but maybe you can find some useful information here: http://www.lipu.it/oasi/default.asp

The birdwatching section of this site is pretty skimpy: http://www.hobbyuccelli.it/ucc_italia/index.php

I remember seeing a little about birds on a website about Basilicata: http://www.basilicata.com/territorio/fauna.htm
