Best Pizza in Provence/Cote D'Azur

One of my more bizzare questions. When we were last in france- a LONG time ago, I had the most exquisite "pizza au feu bois" at a small cafe/pizzeria. It was "quatre saisons" ( 4 toppings on one pizza). I was not able to ever find the restaurant again and not duplicate the sublime experience anywhere else. I'd love to know your favorites in the area for my upcoming trip! Laurie

I've become a big fan of Le Fournil in Maussane-les-Alpilles.

L'Ecurie in Vieux Nice does wonderful pizza--and also a very nice, garlicky salad to have on the side.

Yes, it's definitely the pizza at Le Fournil here in Maussane-les-Alpilles....

La Pizza in Cannes....across from the port.
I dream about it!
You can have your pizza al fresco in the summer and by the fire in the winter.
There's also a good regular Italian menu.

Strangely enough, the best pizza we have so far found in Provence is a "pizza truck" near the bus depot in Aix. You'll see these trucks all over, and quality varies hugely. This one should be getting its first Michelin star anyday.

That being said, we'll have to try Le Fournil....

To StCirq and Patricia: can we invite you there for lunch next week?

francefan,

Sadly, the Fournil is only open for dinner.... except on the weekends.
We also have a fab "pizza truck" on the village square on Monday and Thursday evenings....as well as at theTHursday morning market. Serge makes a pretty mean pizza.

I'm not sure of our full schedule next week (I just got back from Brussels last night), but please email me (if you haven't already..lol)and we'll see what's what.
