I am anxiously awaiting a reply from the Henri IV about internet access. Sadly, we must have a laptop with us for access to work and high speed (not dial up)access is a must. So far no reply yet...hmmm.

We had room 201 at the HENRI IV RIVE GAUCHE, and it was much larger than I'd anticipated. Hubby and I were VERY comfortable, with enough space to move around easily and also room for both our large bags. One closet with rods, plus another with shelves.

Our view of St. Severin thru the long double windows was just wonderful!! We left the window open some but closed it before going to bed. No problem with noise with windows closed........it just wasn't a factor. They're glazed, or double-thick. Of course, we were so exhausted at night a bomb could've gone off right outside and we wouldn't have even turned over!

Rue St. Jacques can get pretty frenetic at times, but we loved it. Wouldn't even think of staying in another hotel for our next trip.

sharkmom, I believe the room my parents had was on the second floor from the top, directly facing the church and rue de st. jacques.

FYI, the address on the website says 9-11 rue de st. jacques. That's because there are 2 front doors, one says 9 and the other says 11 above it. The only one that's used it the one that says 9. If you take a cab, give them the address of 9 rue de st. jacques. I tried the 9-11 and it really confused the taxi driver as he knew there was not a 911 rue de st. jacques.

Have been reading this thread with interest as wife and I are going Paris 11/19. I have narrowed the hotel choice to Henri IV, l'Abbaye, de Fleurie or des Duex Iles (not narrowed much I guess). Very interested in comments from the obviously very knowledgeable people on this site. It is our first trip to Paris and a short one at 4 nights so location is important. Thanks in advance!

Would you also consider the Trocadero district in the 16th? If so, the 4-star Sofitel Hotel Baltimore has rooms available at a special rate of 180 euros in early December. Has wifi access and is very good with business travelers. It's a nice neighborhood...esp. as you walk up the Ave. Raymond Poincare to the Place Victor Hugo and explore around there. It's also close to the Guimet museum and you can't beat the Trocadero for Eiffel Tower views!

Still no word from Henri IV re wifi or broadband access. Am beginning to think they don't have either, which would eliminate this hotel from consideration. Will look at BTike's suggestion, but must admit that I was really hoping for Henri IV

It varies by date. Plug in your dates and scroll through the rates offered. I picked December 4-8 (since you said early December) and that's when the 180 euro rate popped up.

sharkmom, I promise you the Henri IV has wifi in the room, but you do have to pay extra for it. The little cafe next door advertises "free wifi" and we were going to have a morning coffee there to check our email, but we ended up using the internet cafe a block away.

I'm very surprised that you haven't heard back from them. When I was making our reservations we had several emails back and forth and I always found them fairly quick to reply.

Sharkmom -

Sorry you haven't received a reply from the Henri IV Rive Gauche. They always answered us promptly.

Why don't you make a quick call re high-speed internet access? Rose is very nice and speaks excellent English. She is at the front desk during daytime hours Mon - Fri. You could also find out right away if they have a vacancy for the time period you're interested in. Keep in mind the 6-hour time difference. We called once off-hours and were asked to call back during their daytime.

In Sept. we paid 162 euros for twin beds. Their hotel brochure we picked up lists a single at 144 euros.

Good luck! It's a great hotel.

I wasn't aware that there was wi-fi in the room , but I didn't specifically ask either. They do advertise a computer in the lower level for your use, though.

Hello! My husband and I stayed at Timhotel Montmarte for the last weekend of our honeymoon. I have no complaints; everything was clean and the desk staff was helpful. We were "upgraded" to a top floor room, and if we leaned out the window we could see the Eiffel Tower

The rooms are very small, but the location is excellent- right in a neat little square, easy walking distance to Sacre Couer and a few different metro stops. The area definitely had a true "Parisian" feel to it.

FYI, I was able to get a good rate on Orbitz. I'm not sure I would recommend the hotel for full-price rates, because the rooms themselves don't offer much in the way of charm or size. But if you can get a deal, it's a great place to stay.

sandi, when did you stay at the Henri IV? We were just there a few weeks ago, and now I'm wondering if some rooms are set up for wifi and others are not. Our room had a card with info about wifi, but no mention of a computer downstairs for guest use.

We were there from Dec. 17-20 2004. We had a card in our room that gave us free 15 minutes of internet access on the computer downstairs.

Sharkmom,

We just got back from Paris and loved the hotel we stayed in.

Hotel Muget in the 7th. The rooms are small, but unbelievably clean and the hotel in is in a terrific location. Right across the street from the Invalides and around the corner from the Ecole Militare Metro stop. The cost is 100 Euros per night and that includes tax. They have an internet connection for 2.00 for 30 minutes. They have larger rooms with views if your are interested. They book up fast, so if you are interested contact Madame Pellitere at Hotel Muget.

Update. Henri IV finally responded with information, as Marilyn said they would, that they have wifi but they made no mention of cost- just that they charge for this fearure. I have replied asking about price and whether room 201 is available. They quoted rate of 162 E.

FYI, I was curious about the hotels on Lucien's list and I checked them out. Hotel L'Abbaye is much more expensive (199E for standard and 296E for superior)They also wanted 10E for an hour on internet acces, which seems outrageous to me. Hotel de Fleurie has indicated that they have free wifi throughout hotel and their website lists prices for standard double as betweenn 145 to 185. Popularity index fot this hotel is high on tripadvisor, but not as high as for Henri IV. Hence, de Fleurie seems like good alternative if Henri IV's reply isn't positive.

just a suggestion, ask for the room on a higher floor, facing the street and church. That way, you see the spires and buttresses (sp?) of the church and the eiffel tower just in view behind it. I'm thinking it was the 4th floor.

sharkmom, we just paid E162 as well, plus a E1 per person per day tax of some sort.

The charge for wifi is not inexpensive. I think by the hour it's 7 or 8 euros. That's one reason we decided to use the internet cafe around the corner. If you absolutely must have it 24/7 in your room, I suggest the other hotel.

The only problem with asking for a room on a higher floor, facing the church, is that we looked at a room fitting that description and it was very, very small. We decided to stick with our larger room in the back. It would be wonderful to get the view and the space, but you may have to choose between them as we did.

Interesting, because my parent's double room on the higher floor, facing the church was not small at all....

Good Luck and tell us how it works out.

My wife and I have stayed at the Pas des Calais on two occasion and find it very nice. Location (in the 6th, right off blvd St Germaine) is excellent. Rooms are typical Paris but very adequate and clean. People at desk are great! Nice Parisian breakfast (not included in room cost) ... check it out!
