Best local color accom.in Kent?
Brand new to British Isles, going to have a very short trip to London. Want to spend a day in Kent. Would love and appreciate recommendations as to where (town and/or hotel or B & B) to stay to best capture the local color. Thanks!

o you want to see coastal Kent or inland . We liked Tunbridge Wells , I'll have to look up the hotel we stayed in.
You might try visiting www.kenttourism.co.uk for some idea of what you might like to see.

Try Tonbridge, near to Hever Castle and Knole. I'm trying to remember the name of the inn where we stayed--perhaps the Royal Tonbridge? It was excellent, with creaky floors and old windows--lots of atmosphere.

Well, this is where we stayed for 3 days last May prior to a cruise leaving out of Dover. The Croysdills were gracious hosts and Lamberden House was quite comfortable. Oast barns are visible through much of Kent and we thought it would be neat to stay at one.
