Best Hotel in Basel ?

Looking for the BEST hotel in Basel. Anyone out there got an idea. Was thinking the Hotel Drei Konige am Rhein was looking good. How far is it from the train station. Is it centrally located for walking around. Or is there another luxury hotel that you prefer and can recommend. Thanks

Haven't stayed in Basel. By reputation the Drei Konige is one of the top hotels in the country. Rhein-side location is quite attractive (get a room on that side.)

Ursula will find this thread I'm sure and have more certain input. In the meantime the hotel's website should have more info for you about location:
http://www.drei-koenige-basel.ch/

Lucky good morning!
Here I am again. Zurich is having a three-days party this weekend. Last night a huge firework for 30 min. Wow, now it's pouring... after a ten-days heat wave.
Well, listen, the "Drei Könige" is by far the best 5-star and highly traditional hotel in Basel, right on the Rhine and in the middle of all(best location in that price-range). I hope you will get a room overlooking the river. Oh, and the Rolling Stones used to stay there, too. They gave a couple of openair concerts in Basel in the last 15 years. Hmm, do not know whether this is a reference for you, but also the famous Spanish opera singer Montserrat Caballé ("Barcelona" with Freddie Mercury from Queen) always stays there. Her career began in the Opera House in Basel!
Next door, you will find the Basel Tourist Office, at Schifflände/Blumenrain.

There is a very small new hotel called "Teufelhof" with only 8 rooms and 1 suite. All the rooms called "art rooms" and are decorated individually. It's on the top of the Spalenberg, very steep but nice street in the old part of the town. Just have a look at their website.www.teufelhof.com
Coming from the station, best is to take a cab. It's not far (around 1 mile) and you do not want to arrive at the hotel carrying all your luggage, I guess.
The "Teufelhof" restaurant is highly rated and very good, if you want to go there. You need to make a reservation, though.
Please do not miss the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen (tram Nr. 6 from Schifflände (close to your hotel) until stop "Riehen Dorf" (about 20 minutes ride). It's really one of the best and highly rated museums in Switzerland.
www.beyeler.com
Right now, there was a huge Mark Rothko exhibtion, but the permanent paintings are great too, Monets, Picasscos, Chagalls, Giacomettis, and a lot of modern American painters. How long will you be staying in Basel, just curious?
Have a nice weekend!

Ursala, many thanks for the advice. Got my reservations at the 'Drei Konige' and at your suggestion will ask for a room on the river side. I will not be there long 3 nights, but will have time to take in the sights you have suggested. Thanks again !!
