Hi Donna, Here are some I found while researching my trip to Paris. Since the trip was cancelled due to 9/11, I haven't actually been to these, but here's what I found:
Three on rue de Furstenberg, off rue Jacob in the 6th: Manuel Canovas, Metaphores, Pierre Frey. Also others on rue Jacob, they may be more decorator fabrics.
In the Marais (4th): Comptour St. Merri, 52 rue St. Croix de la Bretonnerie.
Left Bank near Notre Dame: Le Rouvray, 3 rue de la Bucherie.
Montmartre (18th): Lots of fabric shops in and around Place St. Pierre, right next to Sacre Coeur.
Near St. Sulpice in the 6th: Madura, 66 rue Rennes.
Hope you find some stuff you like!
Hi! There is huge fabric market in the 18th arrondisment (Montmarte). I don't recall the name, although the Lonely Planet guide to Paris has very detailed information on it, including specific addresses, phone numbers, hours, etc. Great selection at amazing prices. A Parisian woman I met highly recommended it to me. Have fun!

Hi Donna, I agree with Susan.Rue Jacob has great fabric shops...I always stay at a hotel on that street and walk by and often browse through the shops, also one on rue Benoit, right around the corner between rue Jacob and Blvd St Germain...Every time I go and look, I wish I could sew!

I found several interesting shops near Montmartre, but made the mistake of planning to go after we rode the funicular to the top. By the time we looked around and rode back down, the shops were closed. Also check "Born to Shop" by Suzy Gershman; she lists several sources, including Bouchara, Artisanat, Sevilla, Le Stand de Tissus, and others. Barb

Andrea refered to the "marche Saint Pierre", which is situated Place Saint-Pierre, just down Montmartre hill, on your right when facing the main stairs.

Actually, it's not a market, but several fabric sellers. There are two really important stores (one of them is called "Dreyfus", can't remember the name of the other one) but also many little shops in the surrounding streets.

Yes, claire is right! It's March St. Pierre. And I may have made an error: I think the detailed information is in the Time Out/Paris, not the LP. Sorry for the confusion. Really good selection at amazingly low, low prices. If you're serious about fabric, try to spend some time there; there's so much to look at & it's fun! Good luck!

There is a wonderful fabric store called "Casiman" at 15, rue de la Chapelle. Telephone is 01 42 09 30 09. I had purchased a lot of Pierre Frey and Manuel Canovas in the states and they were selling the same fabrics there for at least 20% less. The catch is, you can't just walk in and walk out with yards of fabric. They need at least two weeks notice. So if you know exactly what you want, you can call or fax them (their fax is 01 42 09 35 99)from home with your request and you can pick it up when you are in Paris. If you buy there and have it shipped, the shipping costs cancel the savings and you might as well buy it at home. Even if you go to the shops on rue Jacob, you have to give them at least a couple of days notice to get your fabrics and the cost was quite comparable to the states. I should add that I shopped on rue de Furstenberg a few years ago when the exchange rate was less favorable than it is today, and that could make a difference. Good luck!
