Best eats in Sicily?

Hi everyone,

We just published a new blog story called Food Lover's Tour of Sicily: http://www.fodors.com/news/food-love...cily-6047.html

Would love to hear your thoughts - did we miss any of your favorite places?

-Amy

Thanks, Amy. Unfortunately, this was in 2002 so other Fodorites will have to confirm if these places still exist or are as good as 10 years ago:

In Siracusa, Osteria da Mariano, Vicolo Zuccala, 9 - http://www.osteriadamariano.it/ - we had a wonderful meal there that included an orange salad with olive oil, onions, hot pepper and basil.

In Monreale, we had a luscious lunch at a Trattoria called Taverna del Pavone - http://nuke.tavernadelpavone.eu/ . Spaghetti with sardines, pine nuts, raisins, green things (sorry) and gratin. At that time, this meal was served in many places but this was the best version we tried.

On the plane from Rome to Palermo, I sat next to a Sicilian woman who warned us to share a dessert called Cassata rather than two. I didn't see that dessert mentioned in the blog above, but in 2002, it was a staple. So sweet it made our teeth hurt!

Would have liked a guide to staying in, and tasting, Marsala.

Surprised to see no mention of cannoli - totally different and delicious. Also, pasta con sarde.

I loved Ortigia and Erice, which weren't mentioned. I was there in 2008, so my restaurant recs are out of date, too.

The best seafood meal I've had in my life was at Ristorante La Barca - http://www.ristorantelabarca.it - in Palermo. Several dishes of fresh, traditional cooked seafood. Truly amazing.
