Best day trips from Spello

We're thinking about spending a week in Spello and wondering what would be the best day trips to make from there. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Neshkah,
You'll be spoiled for choice: Spoleto, Bevagna, Montefalco, Perugia, Norcia, *Castelluccio (check access ahead of time)...and more.
Other travelers here will no doubt chime in with their preferences.
Btw, in Spello move heaven and earth to dine/drink at Cafe Propenzio.
I am done. the wine at propenzio

I assume you'll have a car...

Add Gubbio and Assisi. I also liked Todi, and Spello-Bevagna-Todi would be a lovely drive.

Spello makes for a great base for eastern Umbria. I'd add Trevi to the lists above. Orvieto, much further west is also terrific but a long drive - unless it fits in with the rest of your itinerary.

Depending on your fitness level, try to do the aqueduct hike from Spello to Collepino. The walk starts in Spello (near the tourist office I think) and takes you through the olive groves until you get to the road to Collepino. The views are amazing. Be warned, the last kilometer, on the road is very steep. We were very lucky as a lovely young man and his nonna stopped and gave us a ride. We had a great lunch in Collepino at San Silvestro. The walk back down was much easier. It took us all day and it was one of the highlights of our visit. There was at least one potable water fountain along the route.

We loved that walk…until we came to the road with the VERY steep walk uphill. It nearly killed me, and the few people who drove past us were not generous like the young man who stopped for you. You were very lucky!

We spent two wonderful weeks in Spello and among our favorite day trips were Bevagna, Montefalco, Assisi, Monte del Lago and Norcia. Some days we just went for rides through the vineyards. Assisi can be seen from Spello and vice versa.
Spello had many good restaurants for a town of it’s size. There are several parking lots around the outside of the walls. We shopped at a small market but there is a large supermarket down the hill, beyond the wall.
