I'm getting a bit confused reading about various hotels....all claiming to be the "best" location...some near Louise Ave., some near Grand Place, some near Royal Palace. I've never been to Brussels before but I trust Fodorites more than the ads. Could you make suggestions as to what is the best location for walking & dining. We're looking for a nice (probably 3-4 star equivalent to a Sheraton, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Westin, Marriott....doesn't have to be a luxury but NOT a "Motel 6" type)Any suggestions....location is KEY. Any locations to avoid? Thank you.

I don't know what would be considered the best location, but I stayed at the Hotel Manos a few years ago and enjoyed it. It is near Ave. Louise. The street facing rooms are very noisey, but the back, garden-facing rooms were great. For a first time in Brussels, I would recommend staying near the Grand Place. You will find many good hotels in this area. Week-end rates in top hotels in Brussels are quite attractive. Just e-mail me, should you like more details.

Just behind the city hall (which faces the Grande Place) is the Hotel Amigo. Very nice, upscale, no glitz, good food. I do not know how much their rates run, but I would think that could be checked on the web. Since I was on my company's expense account, I never saw the bills.

Hi! We stayed at the Hotel Amigo several years ago. It is a very central location right next to the Grand Place. This area is also very close to the restaurants also. It is avery central, very good location. The Amigo, I don't know the price currently but is definitly in the Hilton class. I just checked a guidebook and it is listed as expensive. It was a great hotel when we stayed there several years ago. <BR> alan

I'd recommend staying near the Grand'Place. We stayed at a charming hotel very close to the Grand'Place. It was called Le Dixseptieme (it has a web site and is written about in Fodor's). It was a lovely 'boutique' hotel. It didn't look like much from the outside but used to be the residence of the Spanish Ambassador (18th century)and had a luxurious interior. We stayed in a lovely suite and the price was very reasonable.
