Best Belgian Chocolate - updated list?

My search of the posts here for the "best" Belgian chocolate revealed some threads from 2005 and 2003. Some of the brands listed include Leonidas, Neuhaus, Cote d'Or, Marcolini's, Dumon (in Bruges), and of course, Godiva.

I'll be in Brussels next month and wondered if these brands are still the ones to seek out, or if there are others you'd now recommend. To help with recommendations, we like most kinds of chocolate, especially dark. My husband loves dark chocolate with nuts. Can't wait to hear your suggestions - thanks!

My favorites are still Wittamer and Pierre Marcolini. Both have stores in Grand Sablon.

Galler is okay too - store near GrandPlace

Leonidas and Neuhaus are, IME, mass production.

Of the mass produced chocolates, those are all good ones, although I'm not too crazy about Cote d'Or. I find Leonidas to be the best value for the quality you get. Another one I like that you haven't listed is Corne Port Royal.

yk, I just looked at the websites for Wittamer and Marcolini - wow! I think the challenge will be figuring out how to work off all the calories I'm going to consume.

Hi CleoB, calories consumed while on vacation do not count. Enjoy!

BTW, while you can buy Pierre Marcolini chocolates in the US, they are much cheaper in Belgium. Good souvenirs (though not inexpensive).

I believe Galler is the Belgian Royal Warrant holder, but I wasn't crazy about their chocolates.

Please come back after your trip to tell us your verdict!

I have a thought. Maybe this post could answer for me. I am not a lover of candy generally. But Belgium chocolate is another thing all together ! Now, the question, why does America, have such low taste in regards to chocolate and cheese ? We could do so much better ... Majority of people, have no idas what GOOD is. Please comment
