I second the Kodak Advantix camera, I bought one for around $30 and I took the most awesome pictures in Paris. Plus it has the feature of taking the long pictures which is great when trying to get in the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre or even the Ponte Vecchio Bridge.
Even a novice can use it without a problem.
The only problem Ihave with disposables is that you need to take a bunch of them, or buy a bunch of them... we just returned from a Kenyan safari and took wonderful photos with my Olympus Stylus Zoom 80 and my husband got brilliant photos with his Canon Elph.. (with a panoramic feature that was great for capturing sweeping vistas) Alas, I don't know how much the Elph sells for as it was a gift, but I got my Olympus for $120.00 on Amazon.com.

I've had the Pentax Zoom 100(something) but I didn't like the quality of the pictures so I gave it away. Then I got the Olympus with a larger zoom, but also thought the pictures were grainy. I do have one of the older Canon Elphs and I like the size and the pictures. M.

Hi,

I thank you all who bothered to reply--even those that suggested disposable cameras (which were definitely vetoed on a post of mine several weeks ago).

Does anyone know why when I put the EXACT title of this "post" into the "search" function, it wasn't there??? Well---I did find questions similar to mine posted in May 2001 and with the info you have supplied, and that, I will take the concensus of the opinions.

If you wish to add MORE camera suggestions, I'm still open.

Freida

You can't go wrong with the Olympus or Yashica models. It might be worth it to spend $10 more for the Olympus "weatherproof" version (I believe weatherproofing is standard with the Yashica). We once took our Pentax dog-sledding and the lens froze shut. In fact, it was pretty worthless for most of our trip to the Canadian Rockies in winter. We tried again with Yashica and Olympus -- no problems, even at 35 below.
