My husband and I are planning a trip to France for a week. I definately want to see Paris. What other places would you recommend in France?

Hard to say without knowing your interests. With only one week you might think about just staying in Paris, as there's so much there to see.

Unfortunately we are the type of people that can't just stay in one city. We just got back from our 9 day trip to Vienna, Prague & Salzburg and were glad to see so many nice places. We are thinking of going from Paris to South of France....would like to lay on the beach.

You haven't yet been to Paris. If you get terribly bored, there are many, many worthwhile daytrips.

Easiest would be to take the 3 hr TGV to either Aix or Avignon, see a bit of Provence, then St Tropez or Nice. Fly home from Nice.

We've visited Salzburg & Vienna - but not Prague. We saw all we wanted to see in Salzburg in 1 full day, and 2 full days for Vienna (that was more than enough). Paris is completly different. We've visited Paris collectively for more than 8 weeks. We've spent a grand total of about 4 hours in the Louvre, and less in Orsay (we're not painting fans). We're still finding new things to do & see there. I think you could easily spend your entire week in Paris & not get bored. A day-trip trip to Versailles would provide a break if you need one.

If you really want to see something different & also want to get in some beach time, I would take the TGV to Aix (like I previously suggested), and then spend 3 days in St Tropez & surrounding area (you'll need a car).

Enjoy Paris for the week. I agree with Ira in that if you want to do any day trip, go out to Versailles. The Hall of Mirrors has just been reopened. Check the guidebooks/website for when the fountains run. You may want to plan your trip around that experience.

All that Stu said. We still go to Paris for at least 4 days of any trip to France--and usually more.STill haven't seen/experienced it all. It is just an entirely different kind of city than any other in the world, in my opinion.

If Paris just isn't enough, you could make day trips to Dijon, Lyon, or Rouen.

I will still say, we have been to Paris many times for a week and not been able to "fit in" a day trip.

don't run around like chickens - use your week to enjoy a great city - if you had 2 weeks you could head out on a train to Normandy to see WWII sites or the Loire for great castles.

I took a day trip to Brussels one year but wished I had stayed in Paris but made up for it recently spending 17 days and that STILL WAS NOT ENOUGH time to se everything on my list.

Boy or girl? I'd take a boy to the catacombs or the sewer tour if they still do that.

No so out of the ordinary, climb the steps to the top of Notre Dame, do a night boat ride down the Seine, climb the Eiffel Tower.

It's a 12 y.o. girl. She's spent a day and a half in Paris before, doing all the typical things (Eiffel tower, Louvre for Mona Lisa, winged victory and other things, Musee D'orsay, climbing Notre Dame, walking Champs de Lycee...she declined the sewers last time, but maybe it's worth a try again. How about shopping?

If you want to go south, the TGV is the only way--about 3 hrs. to Aix. Forget St. Tropez--too far. The beach clubs in Nice are good. But for a fabulous beach club go to Antibes, "Keller Plage". Also has a great restaurant for lunch or dinner.

I agree with most that this is a bit ambitious for only 1 week. We've been to Paris many times and still have things on our "to do" list.
