Bernina Express - shorter round trip?

Hi ,

I will be with the family on holiday in Livigno in the summer , I'd like to go on the Bernina express but don't have the time or inclination do to the full 7.5 hour ride epecially as I would need to do the return trip as well. Is there a shorter trip worth doing (2-3 hours each way)? I was thinking Pontresina to Tirano and back. Any thoughts or alternatives?

Thanks

Why 7.5 hours--that sounds like the Glacier Express--check again.

You are right, it's just over 4 hours from Chur to Tirano. I think I might have been includeing the bus ride to Lugano. Any thoughts on Pontresina to Tirano? I'm I missing out on much with the shorter ride?

Pontresina up and over the pass is supposed to be the best part. You may not even need to go all the way to Tirano if it stops before that.
