There are some good restaurants, or at least well-reviewed, a few blocks away on Oranienburgerstrasse.

I remember Proenza stayed at the Melia, if I recall, which is a really good location and seems like a nice hotel, and in the specified price range.

The Melia came up with over $290 a night, way too rich for my blood. We're still looking and will check out all the suggestions made here.

I'm still not sure about Priceline....

What are your dates? My guess is you are booking during a trade fair, if you are getting these high prices and booked-up hotels.

We're planning on being in Sept around the 21st for 4 nights. Are there any big events there causing the prices to jump?

Try www.hrs.de to search for hotels.

Location in Berlin is not too important (at least if it is in central Berlin), because with the U-Bahn you can reach other areas quickly.

I noticed that HRS has an incredible rate for the Grand Hotel Esplanade which is a true 5-star-hotel and one of my favorite hotels in Berlin.

BTW, be careful with posts of the "I HATED..." type - these are very subjective.

Hi We stayed at the Hilton in the East side. It was so close to everything. We walked to all the attractions and then took the Metro for the others. We used points and stayed free and were upgraded to concierge floor. Berlin
is a great city. Have fun! Johanna

I found a room at the Pension Classic, Wittenbergplatz 5-6, Berlin (Ku'damm Area) for 71 Euros per night including breakfast September 21 to Sept 28.
Does anyone know of this hotel?
