bodhijack,

Yes - Bergamo is definitely worth a visit. Here's a link to my trip report, the second half of which covers the town;

In my opinion 1/2 a day is not enough. We had a full afternoon and overnight and I could easily have stayed another day or two. The upper town is magic, ditto the views and the food. I believe the art gallery is excellent but was closed the day we were there - Tuesday from memory.

We stayed at Il Gourmet, which has off-street parking, and was very pleasant.

I thought Bergamo a lovely town, very worth a visit. I would say it deserves a day.

Try not to be at the top of the bell tower on the hour though (I speak from experience, and my poor ears will never forget the experiance)
