We plan to visit Milan over Holy Week and are taking day trips to Belaggio and CT. Are restaurants open in both locations on Sundays? Or would it be best to visit those locations on days other than Sunday?

We were in Bellagio last september, and Sunday was fine for resturants,in my opinion I would definately not eat in the hotels, we tried a few and the food was ver average.I can give you some ideas though,The town is very small. The Metrople sits on the lake next to the ferry landings when you gw off

Will you have a car? If not, make sure to check the train schedules when planning because service is more limited, often, on Sundays (and holidays)...

The Metrople sits on the lake next to the ferry landings when you get off the boat which, by the way the trip over by ferry is maybe the most scencic ferry ride I have ever been on, well anyhow when you step off the you will see the sign for the hotel ,just follow the small street until you see the entrance on the opposite of the lake side,with your back at the entrance look up the small alley going up the hill it is a bit steep but there are many resturants in that alley with the most fantastic foods and views you can't go wrong.Good luck I found Bellagio the second most favorite spot.My favorite of all was Positano.I see you are going to Cinque Terre I did not go ,but I would think its much like Positano in beauty.

Personally, I would visit both CT and Bellagio on weekdays, if at all possible. Weekends are jam-packed; we couldn't believe the difference between weekdays and weekends. If you're not bothered by crowds of people, then no problem. And I'd rather go on a Sunday than not go at all!

Many thanks for the advice and ideas. We will not have a car for either location so I will check the train schedules. My daughter is studying in Milan this semester and some of her classmates were in Bellagio over this past weekend and were OK with the trains. My thought is Bellagio on Sunday and CT during the week. Not crazy about lots of people but I love NYC and Rome so I guess I can handle it for a day.

I have been to the Amalfi Coast and thought it incredible. It's good to hear that others have found Bellagio and CT equally beautiful. Also, thanks miaspapa for the advice on where to eat in Bellagio.

Miaspapa, from where did you pick up the ferry on L. Como? We will be taking the train from Milan to the lake - probably on Sunday after we arrive.

Lalawmom, sorry It has taken so long to reply,We took the train from Milan to the Verranna,the 4 hrs getting there by train was so wonderful,we talked to people on the train,and watched the hills turn into mountains.When we arrived at ths small station,which exsisted of a building with no one managering it and of course tracks north and south.We took our luggage off the train and as the train left I began talking to this lady,as we walked we talked and found out she was also foderite, how we laughed.We went around the building and saw a sign that in Italian stated this way to ferry.We walked down a small treelined narrow street.Winding down to this handsome building which I walked into ,oh God I walked onto a movie set the director was yelling at me cuta cuta.I got out of that mess and just followed the road descending down towards the lake at the bottom you could see where the ferry landing was.When you get on the ferry have your cameras out because on the lake you will see views of three towns with church steeples .Bellagio is one town. I can bet if there is a heaven it will look as beautiful as the 30 minute ride to Bellagio.Enjoy your trip you will love it.P.s I tend to be a little emotional on that trip I just would see the lake or in Venice the Grand canal and fill up it was so so beautiful.

The train from Milan to Varenna only takes about 1 hr and 20 minutes; the boat ride over to Bellagio takes 10-15 minutes max.
