Thanks for the heads up...I hadn't noticed the reports. Fortunately, my Eurostar to Brussels is at the end of next week when (knock wood) no strike action is planned.

If this happens, what are the options to get to Lille from Brussels?

Perhaps Eurolines bus service or car rentals; another option is just spending the night in Lille as the strike is only for 24 hours. If you couldn't get Eurostar to take you onward the next evening, you could simply go to the Lille Flandres station and catch a regular train to Brussels.

I wonder if Thalys will shut down as well...there isn't an announcement on the Thalys site that I could find. If for some reasons Thalys runs (although I can't see why it could if Eurostar can't), then I suppose you could go to Paris Nord and pick up a Thalys to Brussels.

I received an email notice from Thalys this morning; IMO, they're rather late in informing travelers about the impending strike--I looked for info on the Thalys web site last night and didn't see anything, so if the info was there, it was well hidden:

Nous vous informons qu'un préavis de grève a été déposé à la SNCB pour la période du Lundi 19 mai 2008 à 22h00 jusqu’au Mardi 20 mai 2008 à 22h00.
Le programme de circulation de Thalys sera donc perturbé.

Programme du Mardi 20 mai 2008

Le trafic SNCB sera arrêté et aucun train ne circulera en Belgique.
En conséquence, aucun Thalys ne circulera le Mardi 20 mai 2008 sur la totalité des destinations du réseau Thalys.

Programme du Mercredi 21 mai 2008

Le train Thalys N° 9412 assurant normalement la liaison Liège-Guillemins / Paris Nord aura pour origine Bruxelles Midi.
Le train Thalys N° 9308 assurant normalement la liaison Oostende / Paris Nord aura pour origine Bruxelles Midi.

Tous les billets Thalys valables pour Mardi 20 mai 2008 sont échangeables selon les disponibilités ou remboursables sans frais supplémentaires auprès des points de vente habituels.
Nous vous proposons une souplesse d'accès pour la journée du Lundi 19 mai 2008 et du Mercredi 21 mai 2008. Vous pouvez donc emprunter n'importe quel Thalys circulant le Lundi 19 ou le Mercredi 21 mai avec un billet valable pour le Mardi 20 mai 2008 (pour autant qu'il y ait des places disponibles dans ce train).

Le contrat de régularité est suspendu du Lundi 19 mai 2008 à 18h au Mercredi 21 mai 2008 à 12h.

Pour information : la situation sera déjà perturbée à partir du Lundi 19 mai 2008 dès 22h.
Le Thalys N°9455 à destination de la gare de Oostende est limité à Bruxelles Midi.
Le Thalys N°9457 à destination de la gare de Liège-Guillemins est limité à Bruxelles Midi.
