. The train from Amsterdam to Paris takes you through Belgium. The Thalys stops in Antwerp and in Brussels. You could stop in either of the two for a couple of hours and a quick look round the city,>
Good idea IMO - and if you buy a cheap Thalys ticket to either Brussels or Antwerp and then from there you can always take the flat-fare regular IC train from either to Amsterdam - a bit slower than Thalys but no bother buying the Byzantine-like Thalys tickets - with the IC train just buy your ticket before boarding - seat reservations not even possible.
