Beef in London?

I will be visiting London in the fall and wondered how "mad cow disease" has effected dining out in London's restaurants. Is the beef imported or is the problem not a real concern? In short, is it safe to order beef at this time?

It's as safe as anywhere. In fact the most recent news about feeding livestock from questionable sources has been from France, not Britain.

You'll be fine. Since mad cow hit the island, farmers have had to take so many precautions that the meat now is safer than ever.

However, if you're still the nervous type, just avoid meat on the bone (T-bones, etc.).

Just returned from Uk. Had a nice ribeye steak, Sunday beef roast, beef cottage pie, etc. I don't think you should have any worries.

I think the scariest thing I've ever heard about "mad cow disease" is the death of a woman (substantiated by autopsy) in Stockton, California. The woman had never been out of the U.S. her entire life! Many herds were destroyed in Britain after the initial problem and I certainly will eat the beef. The disease has, they think, as long as a 30 year incubation time so who knows if we've already been exposed. Life's too short to try to avoid every risk.
