Bed Sizes in Italy

Maybe this sounds like a strange question but we were wanting to know bed sizes in Italy as compared to us in Australia.

In Australia we have-

twin beds - two single beds
Double bed - 4 ft. wide
Queen bed - 5 ft. wide
King bed - 6 ft. wide (made up as l mattress or 2 single beds zipped together or side by side).

We like the king bed arrangement.

We would like to know if this is the same in Italy?

I have travelled to Italy often and have also been to Australia enough. There really isn't much diffence in the sizes you mentioned. However, unless you are staying in a luxury hotel, you probably won't come across a king size bed. The buildings are old and rooms are small, so a king size won't fit in. Check out the big hotel chains (Holiday Inn, Westin, Sheraton etc if available where you are going). They usually follow their standards where possible.

If I am not mistaken, when they say double room, it comes with a queen size bed or two singles pushed together. If you want two single beds separate, you really must specify. The bed configuration will vary depending on the kind of place you stay in so always ask.

Hi Curlie,

When you make your reservation specify a queen or "Matrimoniale" (SP?), you will either get a queen or two twins made up together. I agree that kings are rare.

Buon viaggio!
