I am staying in Bath for two nights. What is a nice B&B to stay at?

We enjoyed the Sydney Gardens Hotel, which was actually a big Victorian house with about 8 guest rooms, a lovely quiet garden setting and its own private gate into Sydney Gardens. It's near the Holburne (sp?) Museum, a ten-minute walk from downtown Bath. Driving in Bath is as bad as London, they have lots of pedestrian streets and apparently no accurate maps (when we stayed in August they had just changed the street traffic pattern), so staying on the edge of town made sense for us. <BR><BR>Sydney Gardens was charming, great big breakfast, parking on the grounds, completely nonsmoking with ensuite baths.

The B&B is a Georgian home built by John Wood the younger in 1765. This was a marvelous splurge and except for the Jenkins Hotel in London, I would consider this the quintessential B&B.<BR>

A strong second for Brock's. Spent three wondderful days there in April with three teenagers. Breakfast was very nice with lots of choices. The location is very close to the major sights.

I have heard wonderful things about Brock's but have never stayed there. I know Rick Steves recommends it highly. However, I was in Bath in June and my family and I stayed at the Eagle House in Bathford, about four miles from Bath. There is bus service into Bath every 20 minutes, several pubs within a five minute walk of the B&B, and it is so beautiful and quiet. I believe the house was built by John Wood the Elder. At any rate, the owners of Eagle House (www.eaglehouse.co.uk) were so fabulous that we all thought we would make a special effort to return there in the future ----- and it looks like that will be July 2003. I don't think you could go wrong at Brock's, but, if you don't want to be in a big city and like something a bit quieter, you might consider Eagle House.

We stayed at the Dorian Guest House this past summer for four nights. It was a 4 star (or crown) B&B. Beautiful place and the best breakfast we had during our 15 days at B&B's. The only downside is that you are about a 10 minute walk from town that is up hill from the town. You go down hill in the morning but at the end of the day it is down hill. However, the views over the town during the walk up and down are beautiful. I highly recommend this place for quiet, elegance and good food.<BR>
