When we left Nimes we left a gift of chocolates for our neighbours in appreciation of their kindness shown to us. As we left at 6.30 am, I left the chocolates in a bag on the gate.

Today we received a letter from the neighbour, thanking us for the gift, and that he very much appreciated the respect, and discretion shown by us. The landlord of the property has moved in ( more room for him and his family) and apparently this gentleman asked for our address to write to us. As the landlord had never lived in the property, he also was pleased as he has said that by us living there, it has paved the way for him with the neighbours, as a few of them stop to ask him how we are.

Such a lovely gesture by everyone, and we are thrilled that people have taken the time to write to us. Before going to France I did do a lot of research on etiquette as I would have hated to inadvertently cause offence.

We had such a wonderful experience with the French people, and we will gladly shout from the rooftops of their generosity and kindness.

cheska, that's a lovely followup to your trip. People responded to your kindness and your obvious enjoyment in visiting their country. All the people you stayed with would surely welcome you back.

I hope all your happy memories have risen to the surface. You saw so much while you were there so you have lots of good things to remember.

This special gesture from the neighbors may be the nicest thing I'll read about today.

What a heartwarming gesture cheska, your kindness and warmth was reciprocated by your neighbours. You will ever treasure these memories of your séjour in France, and make new ones too when you go back in the future...
