Yes, a little more Information required
Scandinavia is a very big place
Where are you flying into and out of?
I can only answer regarding Norway and would highly recommend the Western Coast and Bergen. In August you could go as far as the Lofoten Islands or stay in the southern part and visit the fjords. Stunning scenery.
If flying into or out of Oslo for example you could dump the car and do the Norway in a Nutshell from Oslo to Bergen stopping at various places along the way.

Do you know the name of an (all wood town) in Norway?
I was there in 1988 and cant recall the name.
My friends Dad drove us an hour or 2 into Norway from Orsa Sweden. There were wooden planks to walk on and a real old cemetary. It was really cool.

Jetsetj,
I have only been to Norway once (1 week ago) but your question interested me and I googled it.
Could it possibly be Trondheim?
It had the most wooden houses and buildings that I saw in a large town/city in Norway. However it had lots of fires and I remember asking the lady at the Cathederal why this was and she said because houses and the roof of the Cathederal were made of wood?

The OP disappeared, it seems. I could never understand why someone takes the time to post...(even though respondents like us requested additonal info)...then we never hear from them again..it happens far too often IMO. This is no parlor game...we're experienced travelers and want to help. Oh, well! I'll go and do the L.A. Times Sunday Crossword.

I agree Tower.
Many are so vague then dont come back with specifics.
Dont people at least know what countries and cities they want to see?
Here is one of my post regarding WHY you pick your destination.

Copenhagen (Denmark) and Stockholm (Sweden) are my favourite capitals in the Nordic countries. The Fjords on the west coast are the most interesting part of Norway. I find Oslo the capital of Norway a bit boring...
In Finland I would go and see the lake area. Savonlinna is my favourite town over there and Lake Saimaa is my favourite lake.
On the Finnish coast there are two very charming small towns, Rauma on the west coast and Porvoo to the east of Helsinki (the Capital of Finland).
The big island Åland/Ahvenanmaa between Finland and Sweden is a beautiful place. You can travel from Stockholm (Sweden) to Turku (Finland) via Åland by a ferry.
The Finnish archipelago is very, very special.

I think that too many first time posters ask questions as if we are the substitute for basic research and travel guides in general. When the answer is not forthcoming, they bail out.
Michael...so true! I often wonder whether these posters ever look at a map, and/or a guide book before they begin asking for help. I've spent long hours in my private library (I call it Barnes and Noble!) preparing for a trip even to places we've been several times....and poring over maps, etc. I'm sure this has been your modus operandi, too.

depends on what you like to see - towns or countryside
we too are not so much into museums so we have chosen to explore the fjords in norway
a friend brought us back a calendar of norway a couple of years ago but it was about five years ago that i looked at another friend's photos of norway and was taken by the architecture - i really liked the pics of gates and doors and that somehow struck a chord- i had to go!
since then we have been looking at pulpit rock in norway - seems so awesome but we cant make it - itinerary wont allow it- we can only get as far south as bergen
there were so many places we wanted to visit - like lofoten islands - i googled and was just drawn to them
i love mountains and lakes so the fjord county is perfect for me - im really looking forward to geirangerfjorden - we are staying in a cabin for three nights right on the fjord
we have rented a car and will be driving all around that area - right up to allesund if we can make it and then back down to bergen and over to flam
it was really hard to cut things out and who knows what will happen once we are on the road ( especially the trollstigen!) and where we may end up !
tallinn in estonia is on the list too and we have booked our ferry tickets from helsinki- another friend recommended it - said it was a great town to visit
stockholm is on the list because everyone who has been there ( who we know ie - not necessarily here on the forum) says it is a lovely city and nicer than oslo - but we will still give olso two nights - on the last leg of our scandinavian visit
we have been keeping fit - ready for all the walking- hopefully the weather will be splendid or something close to it!

It is an old city with charm and nice people! The beautiful wooden houses and the Nidarosdomen Cathedral is beautiful! It is also located near a fjord
