Bavarian Alps
Good morning. We are travelling to Bavaria mid-September and have time to visit one, maybe two, of the mountains lifts. Were considering the Zugspitze but reading about others like Karwendlebahn and Wendelsteinbahn. Would love some suggestions on which one to choose, assuming the weather is clear. We are based in Oberammagau. .Thank you !

Years ago when I spent a month in the Garmish area we liked to take the Hausbergbahn up to the top. It makes for a great day trip to take the gondola up and hike down.
The Zugspitze being much higher can get socked in with clouds and will be much colder as well. But the views from up there on a clear day are amazing. If your objective is to get as high up as you can and you don't plan to hike down or care about the temps, then you can't beat the Zugspitze. You can take the cable car one way and the cog railway the other if you wish.
Nearby is also the Alpspitz.
I don't know for certain if either of those still operate during the summer months.
