going to Sitzerland or Austria is no prob - You can easily do by car, train or organiced trips. What sites depends on what You are looking for. Most things You find in every travel guide. For nature try the "Ammersee", for culture the "Wieskirch", for fun Munich.

Don't forget Neuschwanstein, the most famous of King Ludwig II's castles in Bavaria.

Laura, If you are using Munich as your home base, you could head east to Prien and visit King Ludwig's castle at Herrencheimsee. Great trip.

You could continue to Salzburg, Austria (don't forget your driving vignette for Austria) and see that lovely city. Whatever you do, have lunch/dinner up above the city inside the fortress accessed by funicular. Check out the old cemetary at the base of the fortress adjacent to the funicular. Visit the town square, churches and stroll the pedestrian-only thoroughfares.

You could add in Bertchesgaden just back over the border in Germany or head back to Munich. In Munich, there are many things to see: the Glockenspiel/town square, the Frauenkirche, Hofbrauhaus, Englisher Garten, etc., etc.

Heading southwest about 1 1/2 hours you can visit Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Zugspitze (or other peaks),Ettal (beautiful basilica), Linderhof Castle, Oberammergau, the Weiskirche and finally Neuschwanstein Castle at Schwangau.

Thinking about it, I'm jealous now.

Have fun.

Munich is a great place to visit--- Salzberg is a must see. Oberammergau is ok for a stop.... Bercthesgarden is cool too. One of Hitlers houses is there. (I am not a fan of Hitler, just history). Neuschwanstein is a great place to visit too. Have a great trip! I'm jealous!!
