Based in Siena - daytrip options
My fiancé and I will be spending four nights in the Tuscany area during our Italian honeymoon. We will be staying in Siena for this portion of the trip.
We're both first timers to the area, so I'm not sure how much time to allot to any certain city in Tuscany or how many it would be feasible to do in one day. We plan to spend one day in Florence. What other cities should we plan to see/visit during this time or what would be feasible?

First, get a good map--the TCI map of Tuscany at 200K to 1 is best.
Here are some options by days:
1. SW day trip: Siena via Asciano thru the Crete area to the Abbey at Oliveto Maggiore. Then to Montalcino, on to the Abbey at St. Antimo, the south loop via Mt Amiata to Bagno Vignoni.
2. SE day trip: Back roads to Trequanda, then to Montefollinico for short stop and on to Montepulciano for 3 hours and lunch--Caffe Poliziano. Then to Pienza and back home via San Quirico.
3. NW day trip: To Volterra via Monteriggioni and S-68 for 2 hours in Volterra. Then to San Gimignano for the PM--hoping to stay there until 6.
4. Chianti day trip loop. Many variations on this theme, but take S222 north as far as Castellina or perhaps as far as Greve and return via Gaiole and Badia Coltibuono.
Of course, Siena deserves at least a half day and do not miss the Libraria Piccilomini in the Duomo. Have lunch at Il Logge, or reserve at Cane & Gato for a 4 hour dinner feast that will delight you. Have fun !
