Base in Highlands
We are trying to pick a base in the highlands for a family of 3 (one is 2 on date of travel). Where is a good area to stay for 4 nights where there will be plenty to see and do without long hours in the car to get to the attractions. Aviemore has been suggested on another site. We will be coming from Liverpool and heading to Edinburgh after.

Aviemore is not a particularly good location nor destination'.
It is mainly an outdoors activity area plus a ski resort.
There would be many better places to stay . . . But what sorts of things do you want to see/do, which would gives a better idea where to suggest.

We would like to be in an area that would off easy walks (2 year old) to great views of mountains, cliffs, lochs and crumbling ruins. I love seeing wildlife as well. I wouldn't mind riding the Hogwarts train, however this is not a must. For example, the pictures of the Torridon appeal to me. I think this area might be a bit further north than we were hoping to go. We were hoping for 1 base but would go for 2 if it made sense.
