Bari airport
Can anyone tell me if there are facilities for checking suitcases for a few hours at Bari Airport?
Also, what's the best way to go into town from the airport? Taxi? Or are there better alternatives.

Hi again, sssteve -
I can't help with your first question, but it is easy to get from the airport to Bari by bus. I believe you want Amtab bus #16. Try the following link:

Hello sssteve, here is the map of the Bari Airport. There is no luggage storage area that I could find.

Yes, I've seen the airport site and wasn't very encouraged.
Here's why I'm asking about this. On our last day in Puglia, we have an evening flight (7 PM) out of Bari. We would like to visit Bari on that day but don't want the hassle of parking in town, or the risk of robbery on our last day when all of our luggage would be in the car.
I had hoped we could return the rented car in the morning (thereby saving a day's rental charge), check the suitcases, and then go visit Bari.
Perhaps someone can suggest to me a "Plan B"

I'm not sure I understand the order of things.
Drop car off at airport?
Take bags to central train station and store them there?
At the end of the day, get the bags and return to the airport?
Or is there a car rental place at the train station where I can drop the car off and store the bags?

Steve - I have no clue what car rental company you are using, but yes, there are rental car agencies (at least two) by Bari Centrale (check Mappy.com for locations). Your other alternative would be to see if you could check your luggage at the airport for your flight.

It's way too early to pick a rental car company so I am free to choose whomever I want.
I would love to check in the bags at the airport 10 hours before the flight (like we did in Hong Kong) but this isn't Hong Kong and in my experience, the airlines in Europe will not check in baggage until they start the check-in procedure which is at best 2-2.5 hours before the flight (particularly since it's a domestic flight to Rome).
